Playing with Light 2

Any regular visitor will know that I really have a thing about light and reflections, well this also extends to shadows as well.

Clouds over the Torridon Hills – Revisited

clouds over torridon hills revisitedMy friend Adrian suggested a crop of this that I wholeheartedly agreed with. It has certainly made it a much punchier image than the original.

Western Harbour – High Contrast

western harbourRegulkar viewers will have gathered by now that I have a thing about light. I was playing around with this image, preparing to post it, when it struck me that a high contrast B&W version might just highlight the drama of the view, even one shot on a sunny late summer afternoon. This was converted using a yellow filter, followed by a warming filter, with a lightish touch of a cooling filter immediately after. Then, after a touch of noise reduction, I really went to town with the high contrast sharpening to bring out the drama in those clouds.

Leith Docks Crane 2

leith docks crane 2These are the cranes from which I chose one for a vertical panorama a couple of days back. I went down there again this morning and got some shots to rework the previous version.

Leith Docks Crane

This is very much an experimental image, to see if I could pull off a vertical panorama, so to speak. Well I think that side worked quite well, and given the state of dereliction of the three cranes found here I decided to go B&W with a cool filter followed by a strongish sepia filter to give it that sort of timeless feel that I got in the presence of these beauties. I will be definitely going down there again to make a better attempt at this idea. This image will most definitely benefit from being viewed as a larger image.

Update:-

A comment from dcphotoartist inspired me to immediately revisit this image implementing his suggestions for alternative versions of the original (above), both of which can be found below:-

Clouds over the Moray Firth

Two versions of the same image, I was undecided which to post, so posted both in the end. We were lucky enough to be in Fortrose on a glorious sunny morning with some great clouds. These B&W conversions are very different, the first being a straight conversion of five images at half stop intervals stacked, and the second with the same five images stacked but before the darkest was converted to B&W, and with the four top images reduced in opacity slightly to allow just a hint of colour through from the bottom image.

Forth Rail Bridge – Revisited

forth rail bridge - revisited

Following a comment from a regular viewer, Adrian, I have once again decided to revisit an image, this time of the Forth Rail bridge. He suggested a crop down from the top for more impact, but having done that the image seemed to me to be a little unbalanced, so I cropped up from the bottom as well to restore the balance. Also I think that cropping from the bottom leaves much less space around the ferry in the foreground making it look much less like an afterthought. In the end I think that this is a much more powerful image than the original. There is also an alternative version, showing both bridges, to be found here.
